KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- A Honduras international who played for his country in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is expected to be roped in to strengthen the Armed Forces (ATM) team in the M-League next year.
ATM chief coach, B Sathianathan said they have also secured the services of former Kelantan import Obinna Nwaneri for next season.
"We have dropped our four current import players while two new imports have reported for duty. Two more will be coming in the middle of next month but I cannot reveal their names yet. We will also get six new local players to strengthen the team," said Sathianathan after a ceremony to hand over the duties of ATM Football Association (PBAT) president at the Defence Ministry here, today.
Army chief, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor has been appointed the new PBAT president after Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin decided to relinquish the post he had held since 2010.
Sathianathan said the ATM squad would be playing 18 pre-season matches, including three matches against Thai Premier League clubs, next month as part of the team's preparations for 2015 M-League season.
Meanwhile, Raja Mohamed Affandi was confident of guiding the Armed Forces team to face the challenges in the league, despite the intense competition.
"I admit the season will be tough but we will try to do our best and I can see that our players are ready for the fight," said Raja Mohamed Affandi who also expressed PBAT's appreciation of Zulkifeli's service since 2010.
This year, ATM performed rather poorly in the M-League, finishing 10th in a list of 12 teams in the Super League with 24 points, lost in the first round of the 2014 FA Cup and failed to get past the group stages in the Malaysia Cup.
